Pit Master Marvin Belsches

A little about Founder Marvin Belsches!

Before graduating from high school at the age of 16, I had been a busy and industrious worker — always doing and giving my best. Working at Safeway for over 38 years has had a longer tenure than being an adult! From starting as a cashier counting dollars to managing multiple stores that average over 30 million dollars in annual sales, the time had come for me to ask “What’s next”? After living this life for 55 years, I feel I have so much more to achieve, give and most importantly, more to do. I am not ready to retire … yet.

After 21 years of marriage to the love of my life and business partner, La Tonja, and raising my two awesome sons has shown me the wonder of great relationships. Also, I have a wonderful relationship with God. As a man of faith, I am active in multiple church ministries fulfilling my discipleship in Christ. In seeding Men’s Small Groups in the local branch of Zion Church, I am reaching my calling from God to model for and mentor men in building a strong relationship with Jesus. This fulfillment through God’s calling and my talent has blessed me exceedingly through the years. In understanding my God-given talent to cook as one of the many gifts God has woven into me, I was given more to think about in scripture. Romans 12:6 “In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well.

Years ago, I realized that not only did I feel comfortable cooking in the kitchen, but more so that I truly enjoyed cooking outside on a grill and thriving from the way that others enjoyed my cooking skills. For more than a decade now, people have said that my gifted culinary art should be sold and made profitable. God’s answer has brought me a sense of joy, peace, and most importantly, hope.

The question I asked God in prayer: “What’s Next”? His answer: “Billows of Smoke BBQ.”
Before any title I have achieved in my life: Husband, Father, Manager, Deacon, Ministry Leader… I am first and foremost, a disciple of Christ. I want people to ask me “What makes this so good?” so that I can point out the answer that God gave me in His scripture.

Exodus 19:18 “Mount Sinai was covered with smoke, because the Lord descended on it in fire. The smoke BILLOWed up from it like smoke from a furnace, and the whole mountain trembled violently.” This is so good because the Lord has descended on it in fire and has ordained the next best thing.

Billows of Smoke is here and the barbecue world needs to start trembling, violently!
